CANADIAN PUBLISHERS
The AA Independent Press Guide started life as a
supplement to Acid Angel Magazine, back in 1998. Since then, it has grown and grown, and now over 2,000 print and
internet magazines and publishers are listed from all over the world. The one thing that hasn’t expanded is the
editorial team. That is, it is still a
one-man operation, and it is physically impossible for this one man to keep
tabs on everything in this guide.
Whilst I endeavour to keep The AA Independent Press Guide as accurate
and up-to-date as possible I just don’t have the time, energy or finance
necessary to constantly check and re-check each listing. Magazines and publishers come and go, just
like that. So, inevitably, some of the
magazines and publishers listed here will no longer be operational. There will also be omissions in this guide:
magazines and publishers that aren’t listed.
You can help out, by making me aware of any inaccuracies and omissions
in this guide. Just email me at dee@thunderburst.co.uk and let
me know what you know. Then I can let
everyone else know too!
The listings that are highlighted in yellow refer to magazines that will
accept electronic submissions, but be aware that there are usually stipulations
attached.
Please note that these listings are no longer provided for FREE. It is requested that you make a donation
towards the upkeep of the website and for the time and energy that I have to
put into maintaining, updating and developing all the resources on this
website. If sufficient donations are
not forthcoming I will have no other choice but to pull the plug and go get a
"real" job. So, for your own
sake, and for the sake of other writers, make a donation
and help to keep these resources
available for everyone. If you aren't
willing to help out then the chances are, next time you come here all you will
get is an "Error 403" message.

is the publication of one creative non-fiction title per year. Because of a

Véhicule Press publishes poetry, fiction, translations,
and social history. Since 1973 it has published writing of quality by Canadian
authors, with a commitment to publishing first-time authors — a third of its
list. Poetry, social history, and a visual arts background have shaped Véhicule
Press. It believes it is important to understand culture within the context of
social history. This explains its commitment to publishing poetry and fiction
and books that seek to document and explain society to Canadians, and to those
beyond our borders.

Wolsak And Wynn Publishes poetry only. Since its founding
in 1983, its objective has been to promote the work of excellent, contemporary
Canadian poets. Its list includes both emerging and active mid-career authors,
and represents perspectives from every region of the country. The authors it
has published display widely divergent styles and approaches to writing. It
favours no one style over any other, aiming instead for diversity in voice and
technique. Wolsak and Wynn is founded on the belief that poetry is an essential
component of literature, in Canada as elsewhere in the world. The company is
small, but its belief in the genre, and its enthusiasm for widening the
audience for poetry are boundless.

Editorial: XYZ Publishing, the English-language program of
XYZ éditeur of Montreal, produces eight books per year in “The Quest Library,”
a series of Canadian biographies for older teens and adults. Award-winning
writers across the country write for the series, and the subjects of “The Quest
Library” are outstanding Canadians whose lives have made a difference to Canada
and to the world. XYZ éditeur's parallel series of 24 Canadian biographies in
French, “Les grandes figures,” is excellent material for high-school
French-immersion classes. XYZ Publishing also has begun to publish novels, and
intends to become a leading publisher of fiction in English.
